In 2007, a number of disasters devastated communities and impacted the lives of people already struggling to survive on a daily basis. Most recently, a cyclone ravaged remote coastal towns in southern Bangladesh, leaving millions injured or homeless. AmeriCares responded immediately by delivering two shipments of emergency medicines and medical supplies as well as sending a relief team to coordinate the efforts and assess the damages.

Earlier in the year, historic flooding saturated Mozambique, India, Bangladesh and Mexico, hurricanes swept through the Caribbean and a massive earthquake devastated Peru. At the same time, many continued their desperate efforts to recover from extraordinary disasters like the 2004 tsunami and the 2005 Pakistan earthquake or to survive under long-term strife, such as in Haiti and Darfur, Sudan. While so many others, like many people in Kosovo who live in extreme poverty, and must live day to day with limited access to basic health care, AmeriCares is there with a passion to help and the ability to deliver.

Here in the United States a tornado flattened the entire town of Greensburg, Kansas, the Gulf Coast continued to rebuild its communities devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and millions of uninsured Americans faced mounting health care concerns.

In each of these cases, AmeriCares was there, responding to the various medical and relief needs that go hand in hand with ongoing crisis and sudden disaster. This year alone, AmeriCares delivered more than $800 million worth of aid to 80 countries around the world.

In addition, AmeriCares continued to support its own community: providing a two week summer camp for children impacted by HIV/AIDS; repairing the homes of those who are physically or financially challenged; and, opening a new free health clinic to serve the uninsured of Fairfield County, CT.

AmeriCares would not have been able to deliver this aid to help so many people in need this year without the generous and loyal support of our donors. We thank you for making our work possible.
